In the immediate surroundings of the Vecchia Osteria, you can visit a land rich of history and culture. On the outskirts of Siena, on the border with the area where the famous Chianti Classico is produced, you find yourself in an almost unreal dimension where time seems to have stopped.
The road the restaurant sets along,  the SP 408, is the branch of Chiantigiana street  which connects Montevarchi to Siena. Along this road you can see many castles, open to visiting such as Brolio Castle, Meleto Castle, Cacchiano Castle and Ama Castle (and its magnificent ancient suburb). Often Tuscan castles are places of wineries, so you can also taste and buy the Chianti Classico wine or the fresh olive oil directly from their production.
As you approach the restaurant, in addition to countless companies producing wine and oil, you can find the indication to a unique park in Italy, the Sculpture Park of the Chianti region. The Villa of Geggiano is worthy of attention and a visit. It offers some interesting apartments of the XVIII century and a precious garden. The Villa belonged to one of the most prestigious families of Siena. Also interesting is the Certosa of Pontignano, now a University location, where you can visit the wonderful garden, the chapel and the cloister.
Another beautiful garden is open in the Tenuta of Monaciano. All these locations are very closed to the restaurant, and continuing 4 km ahead, you can easily reach Siena. Leaving from the Vecchia Osteria, you can reach the highway to Florence (the “Palio” street), to Grosseto (the “Due Mari” street), to Perugia (and to the Val di Chiana) and the Cassia street which crosses the Valle d’Orcia, another enchanting oasis in the province of Siena. In this are you can enjoy the towns of Pienza, Montalcino, Bagno Vignoni and the Crete Senesi with with their magic countries and countrisides, the ancient churches e the Monte Oliveto Maggiore Abbey. You can finally take the SP 222 “Via Chiantigiana” through the Senese and Florentine Chianti to reach Castellina in Chianti, Panzano, Greve in Chianti and Florence.
